I recently had an official launch party for my cookbook, The Slider Effect, at the Hedley and Bennett Apron HQ. It was a big shebang because you only write your first cookbook once, so why not? We pulled out all the stops and it was amazing. It completely humbled me as a person because many a lot of people came out to celebrate, despite it being 4th of July weekend and despite it being a million degrees in a warehouse with no AC. As I continue to go on the world’s smallest book tour (I’ll be in San Francisco at Williams-Sonoma Union Square on July 16th at 12:00pm), I find it so crazy that people follow this blog and actually want to meet me and want me to sign their books. It’s daunting and flattering and exciting. Thank you all for being so supportive. I really do hope you love this book as much as I loved creating it. With that being said, there were so many different components that came together to create this event, so I wanted to take a little bit of time to share some images with you all, and thank some important people who made it all possible.
Even before I was done writing and photographing this cookbook, I had a very specific dream of having a launch party for the book. What’s the point of working very hard on something, if you can’t daydream about the fun benefits at the end of it? You have to enjoy those moments because it makes the long days and nights working endlessly, worthwhile. My dream was to have the party at the Hedley and Bennett HQ in Downtown LA. I’ve been following this company for a long time now on instagram, and I love all of their aprons and all of their dedication and hard work. To be able to actually have the party at this factory was a real life dream come true.
In case you don’t know, Hedley and Bennett makes high quality durable kitchen wear for women, men, chefs and kids. What’s more, they make it all in America and take time in picking out the fabrics and materials that go into their products. Their aprons are literally everywhere these days. I can’t really go eat anywhere in LA without seeing their aprons around, and that makes me very happy to see. It’s very inspiring and if you can treat yourself to a durable long-lasting apron, you most definitely should.
I also want to thank the other sponsors of the event. Wisconsin Cheese (aka Wisconsin Milk Marketing Board) provided a ridiculous amount of cheese for people to snack on. I’ve been working with Wisconsin Cheese on the blog for a couple of years now, so it was nice that they were a part of the launch party. It seems fitting. La Brea Bakery provided a great range of their most popular breads to go with the cheese. It was a real party, especially if you like me, believe a party need only involve bread and cheese. Is there anything better than those two treasures in life? No. The answer is always no….except maybe wine.
Speaking of wine…ClubW was gracious and awesome enough to provide all of the out-of-this-world wine for the event! If you’ve yet to check out ClubW, what are you waiting for?! They’re a monthly personalized wine club with wines starting at $13! If you’re a wine enthusiast, or just looking to give a great gift to someone, definitely check them out. You can actually receive some of my recipes now with certain wine pairings. Talk about a deal! They offer a wide variety of wine too, and most of it, you wouldn’t even have heard of it, if it wasn’t for them. These wines were served at the party and were great (I highly recommend them for summer): Ruza Rosé, WKND Sparkling Chenin and Zwicker White Blend!
I also wanted people to get a taste of the book at the event. Don from A Taste of Gourmet Catering made several of the sliders from the book and brought them to life. The Hawaiian Sliders, Bagel Breakfast Sliders, Pulled Pork Sliders, Fried Zucchini Sliders, Hot Dog Sliders, and BLT Avocado Sliders were all being served. If you have the book already, be sure to flag these because they’re some of my favorites. The Fried Zucchini Sliders from the book are my all-time favorite. Just saying.
One of the greatest things about this event was the amount of people that came out and supported me and this book. You guys are amazing! I was fortunate enough to meet fans from the site. Random people who came across the book online and found out about the launch party and wanted to come out and grab a copy. What?! That’s insane for me to think! Thank you for spending a few hours of your day with me and my crazy family. (P.S. This picture below isn’t a random fan…he’s actually my fiancé. And if you follow me on Instagram you probably recognize his crazy mug. Just plugging in a shameless picture of us. Sorry).
As I mentioned earlier, I’ll be in San Francisco next weekend on Saturday July 16th at the Williams-Sonoma in Union Square! I’ll be doing a demo (making the Fried Zucchini Sliders from the book for you to taste) and signing some books from 12:00pm to about 2:00pm. If you’re free and are in the Bay area, please stop by and say hi! Eat a slider and let me scribble something moderately funny in your book. I promise it’ll be a blast. I hope to see you there!
Thank you so much for bearing with me while I shamelessly plug away at my book, and this launch party. I know it isn’t as fascinating to some as a recipe might be, but I thought that maybe perhaps some of you might enjoy it. Again, I’m so thankful to everyone who came out and made this day that much more special than it already was. I never thought in a million years that I’d actually have a cookbook one day, and it’s mind boggling to me that people are actually interested in what I have to say. I truly wish and hope that every one enjoys this book. If you haven’t had a chance to buy the book, please check it out online and pick up a copy because I just know that you’ll love the recipes in it.
If you haven’t been able to grab a copy of the cookbook yet, I just want to give you a friendly reminder that I’m currently hosting a giveaway on the site! Each week in July I’ll be giving away a signed copy of the book along with a special prize. The prize will change from week to week, so I think it’s time to get excited. This is also your chance to perhaps win yourself a copy. This week I’m giving away a copy of the book along with a big bundle of the different picks I used throughout to hold those sliders in place! If you’ve yet to enter the contest, be sure to check out the Strawberry Piña Colada Pie post where you can read all the details and enter to win!
I also want to thank Joe Funk for taking all of these photos!
