So by now you might’ve heard me mention, once maybe or twice tops, that I recently finished writing and photographing my first cookbook. It’s called The Slider Effect and it’s all about my favorite food, SLIDERS! Now, I’m going to keep on talking about it until I’m blue in the face because I’m very proud of it and super excited for you to see it. June 28 is still so far away, but I promisee you, it’s well worth the wait. So please forgive me in advance if I start to sound like a broken record, especially as the release date gets closer and closer. I can’t help it. I’ve been keeping certain details about the book to myself for a while, just so that I can drop little surprises every so often, right when you least expect it. Really, I just wanted to feel like Beyoncé for once in my life. Like today for instance, today I can officially share with you the cover of the book. There it is, right up there. Do you like it? Do you love it? Do you hate it? (I hope you don’t, if you do don’t tell me because I’ll cry). I’m actually obsessed with it. I think it showcases the cookbook very well and makes you want to open it up and start cooking through it. It’s inviting and definitely makes me hungry every time I look at it. Of course, I’m impartial so you can’t trust my word for it. I do have another surprise for you! It’s been an exhausting two years of hard work, sweat and tears to put this book together. Finally seeing the finished product in my hand, and as we get closer and closer to the release date, I’m getting more and more nervous and excited and nervous. I want you guys to love it just as much as I do. Thank you for all of your support and feedback throughout the years, and for following me along in my tiny corner of the internet. This most definitely would not have been possible if it wasn’t for you guys. I’m always so thankful for that and will never forget it. I hope that my love of sliders and passion for what I do shines through in this book as much as I wanted it to. I hope that this book gets you excited to get in the kitchen and make and eat all of the sliders that you never even knew you wanted. The book is a square and hardcover and I really believe that it’s the perfect size for a cookbook, if I’m allowed to brag for a second. I think the size makes it a great gift for ALL of your friends and ALL of your family. I think this book should be your go-to gift idea for everyone in your life, from this moment on. Promise? I wanted to take a moment though and point out that the designer of the book, Diane Marsh, KILLED it with all of the graphics and logos and colors throughout the book. She made it extremely beautiful, much more than I could’ve ever pictured and dreamt of.
The book is divided by 7 chapters. The first is an intro with some basics that will come in handy when you go to start your slider adventure. Then there are 4 chapters on sliders. Meat, Poultry, Seafood and Vegetarian (there’s literally something for everyone). There’s a chapter on homemade buns, biscuits and rolls (because sometimes you need to feel like Martha Stewart in the kitchen), and everything is finished off nicely with a chapter on homemade sauces, spreads and condiments. All of which you need to know in order to become a slider pro. I made sure that I have you fully covered on every level. You’ll no longer have to worry about what you’re making for a party, dinner, or a snack. Sliders are the answer to everything.
The Meat Chapter is my favorite chapter. Some of the highlights are Western Bacon Cheeseburger Sliders, Hawaiian Sliders (pictured above), Banh Mi Sliders, Hot Dog Sliders and Pulled Pork Sliders, just to name a few. If you’re like me and love meat, then you’ll definitely love all of the sliders in this chapter. They’re all a must no matter if you love beef, pork or lamb.
The Poultry Chapter is spearheaded by a very popular dish I have on the blog, Fried Chicken and Waffle Sandwiches. That old post of mine gets the slider treatment with a spicy jalapeño brine to the chicken, right before you dredge and fry. It really improves the overall taste of the classic sandwich, which I didn’t even think it could get any better. Some of the other highlights in the chapter include BBQ Shredded Chicken Sliders, Orange Chicken Sliders, Turkey Club Sliders, and Turkey Meatloaf Sliders.
The Seafood Chapter takes everything you think you know about sliders and completely throws it out the window. Out of the box ingredients and classic dishes come together to form some of the most delicious and exciting sliders you’ll ever eat. California Roll Sliders, Shrimp Fajita Sliders, Fish and Chips Sliders (pictured above), Salmon Cake Sliders and Blackened Salmon Sliders are what your dreams are made of, and that’s just the beginning. Wait until you see all the rest! Your socks will be knocked off completely. You’re going to have cold feet.
The Vegetarian Chapter proves once and for all that vegetarian cooking/eating can be just as fun and exciting as all the carnivorous dishes out there. And this is coming from a meat lover, so you know I’m being serious here. Black Bean Taco Sliders, Spicy Thai Tofu Sliders, Afternoon Snack Sliders (pictured above), Bagel Breakfast Sliders, and Fried Zucchini Sliders (my personal favorite). If this is what vegetarianism looks like, then count me in (but not for that long).
